Richard Schiewetz, the founder of the Schiewetz Foundation, was a true believer that all people, regardless of background, gained more value from experiencing the journey of life than from simply asking and receiving. Dick saw value in facing challenges and learning from those experiences. He believed that the long-term pride that was experienced from personal accomplishment, far exceed the short-term convenience of being given something.
The culmination of Dick's values and perspective can be seen in his approach to business. Dick worked hard for the success he found in business, and wished to create opportunities in the Miami Valley region of Ohio for other potential entrepreneurs to experience success. Dick promoted the idea that strong local business and entrepreneurs are vital to the continued prosperity of America. A free market, and the success of entrepreneurs in that market, will allow other economic, educational, intellectual and cultural activity to form. Dick established the Schiewetz Foundation, in part, to support organizations that share his appreciation for hard work, opportunity, and community.
In honor of Richard Schiewetz's vision and legacy, the Schiewetz Foundation provides financial support to charitable organizations in the Miami Valley Region in Ohio. Specifically, the foundation supports charitable organizations where programs work to further economic development and entrepreneurship, higher education, leadership training, historical preservation and the performing arts with grants for programs and capital projects.
